Sea Of Bones

Sea of Bones is a journey into the ‘Otherworld’ of dreams and heightened reality. Delving into ancient and modern mythology, this richly layered piece embodies Mark Bruce’s trademark style of raw power cut with tenderness and longing.

Set to a diverse mix of cult pop and baroque music including Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, P J Harvey, Sonic Youth and Domenico Scarlatti, Sea of Bones is a major work for seven exceptional dancers.

“When the lights go up on Mark Bruce’s Sea of Bones to reveal a woad-spattered Joanne Fong in a bowler hat, the audience wriggle pleasurably, sensing that they’re in for a good time. When the seven-strong cast enter carrying severed heads, they know they are. How deep dare you go, Bruce asks us? There’s beauty there, but horror too. Reverberently unsettling. Catch it if you can.” The Observer

Sea of Bones was first performed to sell-out crowds at the Merlin Theatre (Frome, Somerset) and Exeter Phoenix in September 2006, followed by a critically acclaimed national tour throughout 2007.
